Choosing a career path is often portrayed as a straightforward decision, but for many of us, it’s a journey filled with exploration, learning, and self-discovery. Throughout my career, I’ve navigated through various roles, each offering unique experiences that shaped my professional trajectory. Yet, amidst these diverse paths, one role consistently stood out: that of a Corporate Trainer.

From a young age, I’ve always been driven by a thirst for knowledge and a genuine passion for connecting with others. These qualities naturally drew me towards roles where communication and learning intersected. My journey into corporate training began with a realization—I loved to talk, to engage with people, and to facilitate learning journeys that bridged the gap between theory and practice.

As a Management Consultant and Corporate Trainer, I had the privilege of working with a diverse array of organisations—ranging from multinational corporations to local businesses and educational institutions. Each engagement brought its own set of challenges and rewards, solidifying my conviction in the power of continuous learning and development.

However, my path took an unexpected turn when I noticed a disparity between academic teachings and real-world corporate practices during my stint as a visiting faculty member. This observation propelled me towards academia, where I sought to influence future professionals by bridging this gap through education. While my academic pursuits have been fulfilling in their own right, my passion for corporate training has never waned.

Moving continents brought its own set of challenges and opportunities. In Australia, I enjoyed the flexibility of freelancing, leveraging my skills and experiences to work independently. However, transitioning to the UK posed a new challenge due to visa restrictions. Undeterred, I adapted by collaborating with university external engagement teams—a role that not only aligned with my expertise, but also brought immense satisfaction.

Yet, my heart still yearns for the dynamic environment of training and development—a field where I feel most at home, both academically and experientially. Despite the hurdles that come with transitioning from academia back to corporate training, I remain optimistic. My background as an academic has enriched my understanding and approach, offering a unique perspective that I believe adds tremendous value to training programs.

Looking ahead, I am eager to return to my roots in corporate training, armed with a wealth of knowledge and a deep-seated passion for empowering others through education. While the path forward may not always be clear, I am confident that my dedication and expertise will eventually lead me back to where I belong.

In the end, pursuing a career isn’t just about what you do—it’s about embracing what you’re good at and what truly drives you. For me, that journey has been defined by a commitment to learning, a love for communication, and a passion for making a difference through corporate training. And as I continue to navigate through this ever-evolving landscape, I remain hopeful that my next opportunity to inspire and educate outside academia is just around the corner.
